Overview

Neighbor is a family giving collective, and forming the next generation of generous leaders is central to our mission.

That work happens across two layers.

At the governance level, NextGen family members actively serve alongside seasoned leaders, holding 2 of the 8 board seats. Their participation is not symbolic. They contribute to strategy, funding decisions, and the ongoing direction of Neighbor’s work, learning in real time what it means to steward resources with responsibility and care.

At the program level, our Junior Generosity Collective engages younger family members (ages 7–17) in age-appropriate experiences that introduce them to generosity in practice. Through site visits, volunteer opportunities, and collaborative grantmaking, participants learn how nonprofits operate, how needs are identified, and how funding decisions are made.

In Eastern Tennessee and beyond, participants have engaged directly with nonprofit leaders and served alongside community partners. Collectively, they have supported initiatives spanning education access, microfinance, environmental stewardship, and community development.

These experiences are designed to build discernment over time and give them the space to ask questions and participate at a pace that matches their stage of development.

For our family, generosity is not only a financial act. It is a practice shaped through participation, responsibility, and lived experience across generations.
